Located near to Shamshabad, about 22 km (14 miles) from the city of Hyderabad and 25 km (19 miles) from Begumpet is The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

This is a new airport that began operations on 23rd March 2008 replacing the former international airport of Begumpet. It handles both domestic and international flights.

The new Aero Express shuttle service began operation on the 1st June 2008 connecting the airport to and from 5 destinations. These are Begumpet (starts from Paryatak Bhavan) Secunderabad (starts from Keys high school) Charminar (City college) Mehdipatnam (Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital) HITECH City (Opposite Silparamam). The service operates 24 hours per day at 30 minute intervals from 3.30 am to 11.30pm and at 1 hr intervals between 11.30pm to 3.30 am. These exclusive air-conditioned buses travel nonstop between the destinations and a uniform price of Rs 95.00 is charged.

An air conditioned radio taxi cab service is provided at the airport by leading providers Meru and Easy cabs. The charges are payable on the basis of a meter reading at the end of the journey. Only taxis that have taken the license for operating radio taxi services from the Government of Andhra Pradesh can operate this service in Hyderabad.

Car rental services are provided at the airport by Avis, Hertz and Budget. However we do not recommend that tourists or visitors hire self-drive cars when in India due to the heavy congestion and nature of the Indian driving conditions.
