Delhi Airport | The Indira Gandhi International Airport
All international flights arriving into Delhi
will land at The Indira Gandhi International Airport, one of the
major airports of India. The International Terminal is 5km (3 miles) from
the Domestic Terminal with a free bus service connecting the two and operating
every 30 minutes.
The airport is located 20km (12 miles) south of the city centre with taxis
being the easiest way to get to central Delhi - New Delhi, especially
for those not familiar with the city.
Metered taxis can be found outside the airport, but in order to eliminate
any uncertainty over fares, it could be considered preferable to use prepaid
taxis available via the taxi counter in arrivals. The journey time by
taxi to the city centre is around 30 minutes.
Airport buses also leave for central Delhi, operating 24 hours a day with
a transfer time to the city of approximately 45 minutes. It is also possible
to hire a car with driver at the airport. We do not recommend that tourists
or visitors hire self-drive cars although Avis and Hertz both operate
from the airport.
In the Arrival Visitors Area of The Indira Gandhi
International Airport terminal, you will find banks, bureaux de change
and ATMs. ATMs are also available within the domestic terminal if you
are transferring to an internal flight. Delhi Airport is not a
place where you can expect a quick passage, do expect chaos, noise, slow
progress and long queues. With luck you may however experience a lesser
delay then expected, look on this as a bonus.
