Bangalore Airport | The Bengaluru International Airport

The map shows the locations of the twelve international airports of the Indian
sub-continent. Highlighted here is the airport of Bangalore, The Bengaluru International Airport.

All flights between the UK and Bangalore will arrive at the new Bengaluru International Airport which opened for business in May 2008. The airport is located at Devanahalli which is 40km (25 miles) from the city of Bangalore.

Further improvements to the infastructure will continue through 2009 with a high speed rail link planned to be in operation before March 2010. Meanwhile Taxis, hire cars and buses are the options for transfer to the city centre. As with all locations within India we do not recommend that tourists or visitors hire self-drive cars, although these are available from the airport.

Two types of bus operate from the airport, Volvo buses with air conditioning and a non air-conditioned cheaper alternative. Unless you are on a very tight budget we would advise that you choose the Volvo. Note that due to the heavy congestion it can take up to 3 hours to travel between the city and the airport at peak times, so allow plenty of time on your return.

The international departure section at the improved Bangalore airport will eventually house one of the largest duty free outlets in India. The arrival duty free outlet will offer liquor and tobacco, perfumes and cosmetics, electronics and accessories. The arrival duty free has been designed with the increasing security regulations in mind. We are not able to say at the moment when work on these facilities will be completed.

More information about the Bengaluru International Airport including live flight information can be found on the official website.
